GRAND HYATT HOTEL
10 Scotts Road
$6 a slice
This classic version offers a good mix of everything - three layers of chocolate sponge, chocolate mousse, chocolate flakes, fresh whipped cream and red, juicy cherries. Sweet, sour, creamy and chocolatey tastes burst forth from every bite.

HILTON HOTEL
581 Orchard Road
$5++ a slice
Called Foret Noire, this updated version of the Black Forest cake has generous layers of chocolate mousse, chantilly cream with kirsch and a raspberry glazing. Its sweet, sour and milky tastes go very well together. A mousse-y, modern twist to a classic cake.

PINE GARDEN'S CAKE
Block 529, #01-2369
Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10
$2 a slice
With alternating layers of sponge, cream and cherries, this cake is so wonderfully moist, it melts in your mouth. The whipped cream is very fresh, and liqueur lovers will appreciate the heavy dose of rum in each bite. Great value for money.

SECRET RECIPE
10 outlets islandwide
$5 a slice
A towering block with four layers of chocolate sponge, this cake offers layers of whipped cream which are loaded with huge, juicy cherries. There is more fruit than cake in each bite. A definite must-try for cherry lovers.

SWEET SECRETS
Nine outlets islandwide
$18.50 for a 15cm cake
Made mostly of chocolate mousse and white cream, this cake has small slabs of chocolate sponge on the sides. A few pieces of cherry are nestled in each bite. A pleasant, creamy treat for those who like mousse.

BALMORAL BAKERY
Block 105, #01-06
Clementi Street 12 (off Sunset Way)
$1.50 a slice
The lowest-priced of the lot, this slice still comes with the essentials - chocolate sponge, chocolate shavings, whipped cream and a canned cherry on top. But the thick slabs of cream taste a little too dry, and the cake could do with more cherries.
